Why Should Every LAWYER Meditate?

First of all, you don’t have to become a monk or Buddhist in order to meditate. Second, meditation is not a religion. Third, you may be already meditating but you don’t know it. Meditation is a practice of being present in the moment. Because you are focused and present, your mind is calm and you have no thoughts at all. You are in the now, in the zone, in the gap between your thoughts.

About 4 years ago I started to meditate. My first meditation was difficult because my brain was very spaced out. Because I never used to sit in silence by myself, the first experience was pretty boring. As I kept meditating, my mind became calmer and more focused. Later I didn’t use any guided mediation and relaxing music was sufficient. Eventually I developed a calmer and more peaceful state of mind.  During my meditation practice I usually visualize the outcome that I want to manifest in my life. For example, I visualized clients that I wanted to attract into my business, I visualized my business that I wanted to expand, etc. All my visions later became my reality because of this powerful practice. You don’t have to sit for hours in meditation. Carve out 10-15 minutes per day and spontaneously let your imagination run.

Another benefit besides material peace of mind was happiness,  a sense of freedom. I had finally gained the feeling of gratitude and happiness that was previously missing in my life. Happy feelings were present in my daily life thanks to this simple yet powerful practice. If you have crazy “lawyer” mind that is trying to control everything in your life, meditation is something that you absolutely must practice.  I used to control everything in my life, including relationships, money, success, clients, employees, you name it. Because of meditation practice I can relax and let go more easily than ever. Also, I used to be an indecisive person and always asked other people for approval. Since I started to meditate I am more intuitive and able to make quick decisions at work and in my life. I don’t ask people for approval anymore. In other words, what other people think is none of my business.

Another huge benefit that came from a daily meditation practice is my boosted creativity. Creativity is something that you can’t force. Creativity flows to you when you are relaxed and peaceful. Since I started to meditate I received very creative ideas and inspiration flowing through me like a river. As for the health benefits, there are so many positive health benefits like decreased anxiety, depression,  fear and stress levels. Meditation keeps your brain fit because during meditation you stimulate the prefrontal cortex that is responsible for your decision making. It’s like training for a marathon.  You will become more focused and present in the moment. You will get rid of the so-called monkey mind that drives you crazy. Meditation helps you stay centered and present in your heart. When you are in your heart there is nowhere else to go.  You have arrived home.

The best way to start is with guided meditation. It’s also important to be comfortable and patient. Make sure that you either sit or lie down and feel comfortable. Don’t expect any fast results. Learn how to sit there and observe your body,  your breath and your thoughts. Keep in mind that more you practice the better you get. Stick to your practice and sooner than you think you will see the positive impact that meditation has to offer.

Exercise:

  1. Sit or lay down.
  2. Close your eyes and start breathing.
  3. Observe your breath. Inhale and exhale.
  4. Play relaxing music or use the guided meditation.
  5. Don’t try to empty your mind. When you try to empty your mind, you are forcing your mind. Just be and observe yourself. Observe what’s inside of you. How do you feel? What do you hear? What do you see while your eyes are closed? What do you sense? Is it boring?
  6. Soon you will improve your focus and your patience. If you suffer from ADHD, meditation is a must for you.
  7. Start with 5-10 minutes a day. Later you can increase the time, as you like.
