How to Create a Perfect Day?
The Way You START Your Day Is The Way You Live Your Life.
I kept waking up each morning with anxiety while rushing to my computer opening my emails that I have to answer right away like there is no tomorrow. Sometimes I would multi-task and eat my breakfast at the same time. I felt a rush of adrenaline and anxiety at the same time. Despite the fact that it felt like I was in the flow and doing my best, I started to feel overwhelmed about 4 hours later. I had difficulty focusing and being creative. This went on and on and I would have a second cup of coffee to wake me up to do the actual work of a lawyer. Not only did I feel like the day was too short, but I wasn’t able to peacefully answer my phone calls from clients. On top of it I felt guilty as if I was not doing enough work and my performance wasn’t as good as it should be. Does it sound familiar? Do you ever feel like you are a running mouse in a vicious circle?
Make a Change
I started to think that there must be another way to start your day and actually manage your day. Because the way we start our day is the way we live our day. The way we live our day is the way we live our life. I read an amazing book “What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast” by Laura Vanderkam that my friend suggested. The book suggests waking up early in the morning and performing a daily routine consisting of a work out, meditation, or anything creative that requires your attention and focus. Because we are rested and creative in the morning, we must use this time wisely. If you waste your morning creative energy on simple tasks like answering emails, phone calls, etc. you may never get a chance to be creative during that day. We are simple busy individuals living in very busy times. This can’t be changed. What can be changed is the way we spend each segment of our day. We can manage our day in a more efficient manner so all the creative work will be done and we still have time for exercise, answering emails, calls, friends and family. The next morning I decided to wake up at 6am and have a peaceful breakfast and “me time”.
Me time consists of a beach walk or a run on the beach and meditation. I would return back home peaceful, refreshed and ready to conquer the world. What happened after I performed my routine was amazing and mind blowing. I totally shifted my energy from a running mouse into a peaceful warrior (lawyer) who can handle anything. This energy lasted all day long and I was able to accomplish so much work that it was unbelievable. I was super nice to my clients, I did all my creative work and I felt like I actually did have time for everything. I was peaceful, present in the moment and happy. No pressure, no anxiety, no stress. Peace and harmony. Totally worth it.
What does your morning routine look like? Are you running like a mouse in a vicious circle? Are you ready to start living your day like you really own it? Take action NOW and decide what you would like to do in the morning in order to feel accomplished and peaceful. Now the most important part- SET your alarm and GET YOUR ASS out of your bed. If you prefer to meditate, carve out 20 minutes for morning meditation. If you like to work out, schedule a morning work out and do it. If you would like to write a book, carve 2 hours out every morning for your creative time. Whatever is important for you schedule it in the morning. I know that it may be hard to wake up early at first, but in few days your body will adjust and you will be up without setting your alarm. You will LOVE the feeling of ease and peace that will be present with you all day long.
